Unilateral amendment and continued-use consent

Many policies say the company can change the rules, and that keeping the TV or site on is enough to accept the new version. LG’s 2026 ToS update is the sharper case: a blocking prompt when the vendor calls the change material.

Unilateral change
There are two common patterns: 1. **Quiet continued-use.** Sony’s website ToS (and many others) say the company can change terms without notice and that using the service afterward is acceptance. Samba’s ToS uses the same “continuing use means you agree” plus “may be updated from time to time.” Samba’s Privacy Policy says notice of a change might be only a new date at the top of the page. Alphonso’s Smart TV policy uses the same structure for “non-material” changes; material changes supposedly require a re-opt-in on the device. 2. **Blocking re-consent.** LG’s January 2024 Terms of Use already promised 30 days’ notice of material changes via the TV Notification menu, then treated continued use after that window as acceptance. The August 2026 support article describes the sharper case: a material ToS/arbitration change required a new Agree tap, the notice cannot be turned off, and smart apps wait until you accept the required pair. Sony’s Android TV firmware article says a revised Privacy Policy “is required” and that unticked options may limit TV functionality, without reprinting the policy. Alphonso OS’s 2021 policy is the hard version of (1): Video AI is framed as required; disagreeing means stop using the device. That sits in tension with Alphonso’s later Smart TV policy, which describes ACR as an opt-in you can turn off. Both are in this corpus on purpose. When you archive a new version, the *diff* is the point. A continued-use clause is how a 2024 PDF becomes a 2026 practice without a new fetch.
